In a recent interview with Spanish magazine El Mundo, Eiji Aonuma reflected on how surpassing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be difficult.

"Surpassing it is very complicated. In addition," Aonuma said, "the things of the past pass on to our memories and there they grow bigger. Now if you play Ocarina of Time, you realize that it is not such a good game. There are times when it does not move quickly, the graphics are not as nice as they should be, there are parts that are somewhat confusing... Now, other Zelda games are technically superior. Everything is much faster, much better... But to overcome Ocarina of Time, what is needed is a change comparable to what occurred back then. And that's something that is quite complicated."

How do you think the Zelda Team might surpass Ocarina of Time? Is it possible?

I definately don't think MM came anywhere near OoT. Wind Waker tied in terms of greatness, but none have surpassed. One of the main reasons OoT was fantastic was partially due to the games before it (as stated). With this to overcome, Nintendo will have a hard time impressing more than it did in the 90s.

In order for this new Wii Zelda to surpass OoT, it'll have to do exactly what OoT did: revolutionize the action-adventure genre. With the info about how they're using WiiMotion Plus, I think it's well within their grasp. And it seems like Miyamoto and Aonuma are going all out with this one.
