The World of Hyrule / The Decline of Pokemon
« on: February 15, 2009, 02:31:42 AM »
Ah, the good 'ol days. Remember pokemon in it's prime? Remember the few classic first games, and the annoying but still interesting first season on TV? Well, what little pokemon had has now officially went down the drain.

You know, I still feel a little nostalgia when I think of the original TV episodes, or playing Gold on my friend's GameBoy Color. It really was better then, but Pokemon just had to standardize everything, didn't they? I mean, the games were good, and Sapphire/Ruby were good, nice to have a pokemon game in full color, the new pokemon were great. But that's really where the gaming delcine started. S/R were good, but they seemed a little milked, some of the Pokemon just weren't that creative. (and I'm talking about the standards 5 or 6 years ago, not having to deal with Munchlax and that crap) The tv series? Well, the first two seasons were pretty decent, I liked the idea, and the Kanto advetnures thing was really pretty good, but almost anything after that gets ridiculously dumb.

For example, just yesterday-I'm typing that at 1:30 in the morning-I saw one of the new Battle Dimension episodes, it's main plot was this: Brock, Ash, and Dawn were resting in a cabin in the woods for a couple weeks, Brock decided to go out to town to get some medicine. One of Dawn's Pokemon gets sick while brock is away. I watched the humans "have fun" while they were "cooking pancakes", then they all took a shower(?) with the pokemon, then they finally started getting worried about the pokemon. So they decide to go send out Starravia to get Brock. So it does. But then Team Rocket shows up!!! So Ash beats them, Brock gives the pokemon some medicine, and everyone is happy. It was the biggest pile of crap I have ever seen. Pokemon used to be a pretty cool prospect, thinking about having little animal things that you could carry around with you, and they help you, and you could fight with them. But now they've just ruined everything. Yeah.

News / A hardcore gamers guide to the Wii
« on: January 18, 2009, 04:15:12 PM »
Since the last E3, the hardcore gamers who make up Ninendo's loyalfan base have been feeling left outof the party. Awash in new customers won through ingenious marketing campains, Nintendo's focus has been firmly on the new, more casual audience flocking to the Wii in droves. Perhaps unsurprisingly, gamers who don't dream of calling their girlfriends to go shopping in Animal Crossing or or playing Nintendogs on Carrie Underwood's tour bus are begenning to feel like ther money is might have been bettter spent elsewhere. However, as is usually the case, perception differs from reality. While there's no doubt the Wii is drowning in a deluge of terrible party games, there is still a good number of honest-to-goodness, well-made games available to the system. If you're a Wii gamer looking for something a little more meatier than Wii Sports, here is our Hardcore Gamer's Guide to the Wii. Study up, then get ready to steal the Wii remote back from your little sister.

The Heavy Hitters
While this might sound like stating the obvious, we're still surprised by how many Wii owers we've talked to still haven't played some of the biggest and best games available on the system. These aren't cult hits either- we're talking Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. These franchises made Nintendo a legendary company, and the most recent addition are just as fantastic as you'd expect. Quite simply, they are some of the best gaming has to offer on any system. Don't forget Super Paper Mario, an amazing action/RPG that will bring back fond memories to anyone reared in the 8- or 16-bit eras. It's a funny and phenomenal Nintendo first-party title that's often overlooked.

Diversly Hardcore
Better software support gives the Wii a fairly diverse lineup, and hardcore gamers know that variety is the spice of any gaming life. Start off your Wii collection with a couple of casual games that stand up to scrutiny, yet appeal to casual gamers. The best of these is EA and Stephen Spielberg's Boom Blox, a fantastic amalgam of Jenga and Tetris that made it to one of 2008's most entertaining titles. The Rayman Raving Rabbids series also distinguishes itself from the deluge of bad casual titles by providing fun and genuinely funny fast-action minigames. Oh, and you might want to check out a couple of under-the-radar cult hits in the music genre, Rock Band 2 an Guitar Hero World Tour. Ever heard of them?
If RPG's are your bag, your options are fairly limited. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of a New World is the only traditional RPG available for the system. However, EA's My Sims can be a great outlet for your desire to guide the life of a virtual avatar, and Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure emulates the graphical style and enviromental puzzle solving of the genre.
For more esoteric fare, we reccomend the sleeper hit Kororinpa Marble Mania, an odd update of the classic arcade game Marble Madness. If you're feeling particularly adventurous, you might even want to brave the strange and ultraviolent No More Heroes. The GI review team was not fond of it, but its anime-style craziness has won a very rabid cult following. Finally, Goemetry Wars: Galaxies nicely updates classic acade space shooting for a new generation of gamers.

WiiWare
While critics have knocked Nintendo for failing to provide a robust online service like Xbox Live, the company's WiiWare retil channel is a growing outlet for both classic and new downloadable titles. A lot of these have come from the new generation of start-up developers creating innovative and ingenious games that differ from the usual fare provided by mainstream publishers. Foremost among these is the physics-based puzzle game World of Goo, which won awards as a prototype at the Independent Gamers Festival. nother standout os the bucolic platformer Lost Winds, which melds a traditional 2D platforming design with unique motion-control wind mehanics and a gorgeous art style. For those looking for more well known franchises, check out Tetris Party or Final Fantasy: My Life as a King, which refocuses the RPG universe as as city-building strategy game. On the lighter side, nerds will revel in the funny (and sometimes less than polished) Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People.

Third-Party Heroes

The sucess of the Wii translates into the best third-party support that Nintendo has seen on any system since the days of the SNES. Unfortunately, much of that has been in the form of quickly made casual games. Still, there are a number of third-party ports and original titles you may have miseed. The first place to start is iwth three ports of some classic PS2-era titles: Capcom's Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and Okami, and Rockstar's great Bully: Scholarship Edition. Whether it's Okami's graceful visuals, RE 4's white knuckle terror, or Bully's sassy sandbox gameplay, you can really sink your teeth into these games, providing hours of fun for you gaming dollar.
While the sports genre- a staple on most consoles- has dissapointed the Wii (see EA's dumbed down "All Play" versions of its games), there are a couple of highlights for the hardcore- Konami's Pro Evo Soccer series and Skate It!, both of which feature complex and challenging that uses the Wii remote in interesting ways.
Finally, a couple of adapted versions of two recent high-profile releases, Tomb Raider Underworld ( alhough watch for ab ug in the Thailand level that Eidos has apologized for) and Call of Duty: World at War, prove that developers are getting better at adapting current-generation blockbusters to the less graphicaly intensive confines of the Wii.

A Treasure Trove of Classics

While we've given you more than enough good games to keep you playing your Wii for months, Nintendo's Virtual console is an embarressment of riches for any gamer who loves the classics. With over 271 games from a host of old-school systems, there's literally something for everyone. Here are the highlights for each system.

The World of Hyrule / Worst days ever
« on: September 07, 2008, 07:21:39 PM »
In here, you can post like the worst days you've ever had (no shit) and see how that turns out for you. I'm going to post about what happened today.

Got in a fight, not too good, atleast I won it though...got in trouble though. I was waiting for GameStop to open, and just posting playing travian, watching youtube shit. Then my mom says it's time to go in 20 minutes, so I get off, and when I come back with fucking Spore, I just walk over to the computer with the disk in my hand, turn it on, and it doesn't start up past a single point. People at the PC help store say it has an "Unknown Internal Writer Error", and it can't be fixed. So basically our computer sensed I had Spore, said "oh no you don't!" and now it's in the trash. I was involved/a victim of an armed robbery. I got in huge trouble with one kids dad, got cussed out and threatened, because I said to my friend, "Don't worry about me, I'm off bowling alright!" And apperantly that was teasing him. Had some 15-16 year old fags wanted me to go to a barbeque, and when I said no, they held me and hosed me down. I got grounded from my Wii.

Fucking beat that.

The World of Hyrule / Mosquito sound
« on: August 28, 2008, 11:36:41 PM »
So I heard about this about a year and a half ago. It's a sound that poeple over 20 can't hear due to it's frequency, and might be used to be played non-stop in "trouble hot-spots" to drive trouble-makers away. Finally found the real deal after browsing Youtube. Then I used Google, and finally found it as the 5th link down.
http://odeo.com/episodes/1329298

Listen to it, listen to it with somone else, tell us their age (maybe in decades if they don't want that on t3h interwebz)and tell us if they can hear it.
So far for me:

Me: 13 "Yeah I can hear it...annoying too, but not torture"
Mah Mom-may: 51 "I can't hear a thing, you can really hear something?"

General Gaming / Guitar Hero World Tour
« on: July 31, 2008, 10:42:18 PM »
So, the new Guitar Hero is coming out in late October...most of us who have heard about this knows it includes a drumset and a microphone, and for those of us who don't, there you go...It sounds way damn better than any of the previous installments in the GH series, as follows:

1. Obviously 2 new instruments (and Bass, which has different notes and is easier than guitar) will add to the replay value like nothing else could.

2.The graphics are much better, and in depth, so that's an improvment right there.

3.you can customize your characters, and the store has so many more things.

4.The playlist features over 85 songs!Oh hey and Zeypher, we finally got oursleves atleast one Linkin Park song in the game  8)

Here's a screenshot:

Cool, and I like the orang-ish theme...more to come later!

Also, (hopefully no-one will need it) A new mode, beginner has been added, but it is rumored that the other modes will be harder because of this. Oh and if this isn't easy enough, they added Easy Rythm guitar mode, it's either in beat with the drums or the bass, but it's basically just for retards. Another nice new installation, you can not only play online, but you can start a full band online! That means you no longer need to buy the full set to brag you beat the game with a full band!

Time to talk about drums...these drums, unlike the Rockband ones, will include 5 notes, two of them being cymbals. Also, we have the introduction of armored notes, that aren't a necessity for getting 100%, but give you bonus points if you hit them harder than the notes right before armored notes. I guess this means the drums will recognize how hard you hit them to a certain extent. As to what they look like, I'm guessing the red and yellow notes on the middle notesheet are armored notes. Also, Red Octane says that the GH:WT drums will be far less noisy than the Rockband drums.

Anyway, here's a screen of all the instruments together:

Notice the thing under the strum of the guitar? That's a new (but optional) way to activate Star Power.
Oh, and did I mention? Everything is wireless. Yup, say goodbye to plugging in all of your instruments, and then having to untangle them, unplug them, and wrap them around your controllers every time you're done with a jam session, because Guitar Hero World Tour is absolutely wireless baby!

Remember the big playlist I told you about earlier? It definetly doens't stop there...you can make your own songs, trade songs online, and buy songs in an in-game store. We don't know if this will actually be DLC/XBL, or something that goes all to the makers of the game, but whatever dude, downloadable songs! More screenshots:

Character customizabilitly (is that a word?) FTW! Wait, is that a guy or a girl?
EDIT: actually looked at the picture, and whadya know? That's Guitar costomizing right there. Told you so...

Probably what the song=maker is going to look like...looks kind of like GarageBand.

This is supposedly in-game Wii graphics...damn nice.

More character creation.

Did I really forget to mention? You can create you own guitar in this! Lemme go find some screens...

Damnit, can't find any...knew I saw some screenshots in Jekyll's GamePro...anyway her's the official trailer(s):
http://www.guitarhero.com/ghwt/us/

Well, I guess that's all for now, that was a lot, but feel free to add anything yourself, I'm definetly getting this when it comes out.

The World of Hyrule / Condensed animes.
« on: July 30, 2008, 03:36:09 PM »
Post a very short version of what has happened so far or what happened in your favorite anime, I'll do one for Deathnote first:

Once upon a time there was Light. then a book fell and Light had a book. then Light killed L, and Light and L said "I R justice!" and then Light killed people and was god. And then Light haxxed his dad-day's computer. and then Light killed stalkers. Then Light ate potato chips. And then light found L, but didn't wanna kill him cus L had candy. Then a slut named Misa killed people. Then Light had useful Misa with cool Eyes. Then Light said "abandon" and all his memories went bye-bye. And then there was a company. And then there was a different Kira. And then he was in a car. And then L and Light and Watari were in a helicopter, and Light won. and then L ran out of candy so he found out Misa was a slut so he totured her so Rem killed L. Then comes Near. Then comes Melo. Then 4 years later. Then Kira is god. Then Near has toys. Then Melo has choclate. Then missiles and guns and hurty stuff. Then Matsuda-detective-man shot Light. Then Light died. Then Ryuk killed Light. Then Light didn't go to heaven or hell. The end.

OK rules: This is a fight RP (read the rules) where we seperate into teams of two, and battle. This time anyone can join at any time, but only if they have a Teammate. We begin when there are two teams.Other rules: You can pick your nose, and you can pick your teammates, but you can't pick your teammates nose. Really though, as long as the other person agrees, and they aren't already on a team, you can join up with anyone you want.

After your team attacks, you have to wait for the other team to respond in order to attack again.
