The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (GBA Review) by Mikau

Ah, yes, The Minish Cap, the only GBA exclusive Zelda title. In this review I'll describe this games main aspects, in most of which it excelled.

Gameplay (9.5/10)

Like most Zelda games The Minish Cap has awesome gameplay which makes it feel like a real 2D Zelda game. But there is some slight difference which I can't seem to understand but keep feeling. The controls are very responsive and comfortable for anyone who played any of the previous handheld Zelda.

Story (10/10)

This game has a long, exciting story. Some parts are slightly expected like *SPOILER ALERT* the part where Link stands to protect the princess but gets blasted aside *SPOILER END*, but the story is STILL very involving. At timesit got a little slow but, hey, while the boring parts take place you are still running round hyrule killing Octorocs so no worry.

Graphics (9/10)

This Zelda game took much out of the GBA's capabilities but didn't use them to the max. The cartoony style and the animations reminf of The Wind Waker, especially some particular animations like the death of an enemy or the explosion of a bomb. Honestly, this game makes these flat graphics look awesome, nothing else would fit in with this game.

Sound (8/10)

The Minish Cap brought back the beloved Overworld Theme into the series but in a little annoying manner. The soundtrack fit in with the atmosphere perfectly, and the Cloudtops theme was just unforgettable. The only reason for this slightly lowered mark is the awful quality which makes your ears ache after 5 minutes if you are wearing headphones.

Secrets/Unlockables (9.5/10)

This game had quite a few secrets and upgrades, from the optional quiver and bomb bag upgrades to the mandatory Sword upgrading. Taking the story promoting Sword upgrading aside you still have a few secrets to find, and that would be doing all kinstone fusions, getting the Magic Boomerang, Remote Bombs, and of course the Mirror Shield which can only be unlocked after you first finish the game. This game's secrets will defininitely keep you busy for a while.

Replay Value (9.3/10)

The main quest will keep you busy for a while, and then finding all secrets might take some good time, but no time will be wasted. The downside is that once you find everything there's nothing else to do, no second quest or something like that, but it will definitely leave a mark in you.

Conclusion (Overall 9/10)

This game is one of the shorter one's, but it does have some deepness in it, and it will surely leave a mark in you. This game deserves a solid 9 for solid fun.
