Wii Games of the Holidays | 2010

Wii Games of the Holidays | 2010 (by Carl B.)

Wii Games of the Holidays 2010

November 12, 2010, by Carl B. - 2010 was a fantastic year for the Wii, with several high quality titles releasing on the system including Super Mario Galaxy 2, Red Steel 2, and Monster Hunter Tri. This holiday season is no different, as the Wii has many exclusive games that are sure to be critical and consumer hits releasing in the months of November and December. The games are presented in no particular order and are only available on Wii.

Goldeneye 007
Release Date: November 2, 2010
Goldeneye 007

Developed by Eurocom and published by Activision, Goldeneye 007 is a re-imagining of the classic Goldeneye 007 on the Nintendo 64, a game that changed console shooters forever. Goldeneye 007 on Wii has its fair share of issues and doesn't push the genre like the original game did, but it is by far the best single player FPS experience available on Wii. The game also features split-screen and online multiplayer with a great number of modifiers and game modes. Check out the review here. Note: a DS version of Goldeneye 007 is also available.

Donkey Kong Country Returns
Release Date: November 21, 2010
Donkey Kong Country Returns

It has been 14 years since the last Donkey Kong Country installment released. At that point in time Rare was still owned by Nintendo and was making excellent 16-bit titles for the SNES. Much like they did with Metroid, Nintendo handed the reins of a dead franchise to Retro Studios, and like Metroid Prime, the end result looks amazing. From my short play time of Donkey Kong Country Returns at E3 2010, the game was very difficult and very polished visually. After what Retro did with the Metroid Prime series, there's no doubt in my mind that Donkey Kong Country Returns will be one of the best games on Wii, and it's releasing just in time for the holidays.

Disney Epic Mickey
Release Date: November 30, 2010
Epic Mickey

Designed by Warren Spector, the mind behind Dues Ex and Thief, Disney Epic Mickey is the ultimate combination of Disney history and creative game design. Using paint and paint thinner, players are able to create and destroy a fully interactive world as the game's hero, Mickey Mouse. The choices players make eventually have consequences, as Mickey can become evil over the course of the game, and his appearance will change as well.
