Top 15 DSiWare Games (By Leroy S.)
The rise of the new Nintendo eShop is imminent, and soon the DSi Shop will be all forgotten. But take along these bad boys with you when you hunt for DSiWare on your Nintendo 3DS -- the following are the 15 best DSiWare titles.
#15. - AlphaBounce
Essentially a Breakout clone, AlphaBounce changes the game by including RPG elements and a load of levels. Crazy power-ups only increase the fun even more as you try to find a way to complete the main story.
#14. - Photo Dojo
Quite possibly one of Nintendo's more quirky titles, Photo Dojo strives to put you (and friends) in the game for a lovely dose of mortal combat. For just 200 points (and some willing friends), you may have a good time on your hands.
#13. - Aura-Aura Climber
Probably the best bang for your buck here, Aura-Aura Climber is an awesome title that includes a lot of content for 200 points. 12 levels plus a Marathon mode, time trials, score attack and also medals to collect with various objectives attached to them. All I can say is have fun.
#12. - Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!
The 3rd entry in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series marked the first time a major Nintendo release would be download-only. For 800 points, it offered a plethora of levels, including a level editor as well as local and online level sharing, essentially a form of DLC.
#11. - Zenonia
Zenonia is an impressive game with a lot to offer. It has some slight translation and minor control issues, but these can easily be forgotten if you're willing to enjoy the game for what it offers.
#10. - Cave Story
Nicalis and Studio Pixel's epic adaventure comes to DSiWare for the first time, and it's a great game for its price. However, Cave Story 3D is on the horizon, so be wary of where you place your purchase. Either way, you won't be disappointed.
#9. - Flipper
An incredible game from GoodbyeGalaxyGames, it uses voxels to create an interesting experience. You guide a boy looking for his goldfish, Flipper, dodging pirates, zombies and other enemies.
#8. - Pop Plus Solo
An enhanced version of Pop on the WiiWare service, the guys at Nnooo have done it again, creating a very fun experience for all ages. With tons of modes to choose from, it's definitely surprising when you question yourself "who knew popping bubbles would be such fun?"
#7. - Dark Void Zero
What was supposed to be a side story to the main Dark Void game on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, DVZ eclipsed it in terms of the gameplay and overall popularity it gained. There may be only 3 levels, but they are huge and your time will be spent shooting, flying and discovering many secrets.
#6. - Pop Island
If there were three words I could give to describe this game, it would be this: cute multiplayer mayhem. The graphics are very colorful and run at a consistent frame rate, and the multiplayer supports up to 8 people on Download Play.
#5. - Art Style: PiCTOBiTS
PiCTOBiTS is unlike any other game. The gameplay is described as a mesh between Tetris and Match Four, but also includes brilliant remixes of classic Nintendo music by YMCK. There's no doubt that the nostalgia factor is heavy in this title.
#4. - X-Scape
A sequel to a long-lost Game Boy game, X, this takes players to a space system where the protagonist's captain has gone mad with power and is trying to destroy you. The graphical system is very interesting, and the presentation is top-notch material from Q-Games. Here's hoping the original game comes to the 3DS Virtual Console.
#3. - Mighty Flip Champs
WayForward's first DSiWare game, introducing Alta, a girl with the power to flip through various dimensions. The game is a fantastic puzzler, as you will have to think hard to bring Alta to the end without dying.
#2. - Mighty Milky Way
A spiritual successor to Mighty Flip Champs, Mighty Milky Way takes us into the vast emptiness of space with Luna, the main character, as she hops from planet to planet dodging her nemesis, the T-Rex. Getting from point A to point B will be hard as you manipulate gravity and other elements to get by.
#1. - Shantae: Risky's Revenge
The sequel to the 2002 Game Boy Color wonder, Risky's Revenge has Shantae travelling all around Sequin Land to collect the Magic Seals, in order to keep them out of the hands of Risky Boots. With her magical half-genie powers that transform her into 3 different beings and also her long hair, help Shantae bring down Risky Boots and save Sequin Land.
