Nintendo of Europe Shines, While NoA Drops the Ball (by Carl B.)

November 8, 2011, by Carl B. - I've been openly critical of Nintendo in the past, saying the publisher as a whole is incredibly out of touch with the gaming public. After a recent announcement and some rumors concerning a certain Wii game, I'll have to amend that previous observation. Nintendo is still out of touch, but Nintendo of Japan and Nintendo of Europe are considerably less so compared to Nintendo of America.
Leading up to the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, there was plenty of rumors and speculation suggesting that Nintendo would package the game with a special edition Nintendo 3DS. It is, after all, the 25th anniversary of the series.
Fans made some gorgeous mock-ups, but Nintendo never revealed such a bundle. Until now, and it's coming to... Europe.

That isn't another fan mock-up – that's the real deal. It releases in Europe on November 24, and even comes packaged with Ocarina of Time 3D. What about North America? Nothing has been announced so far. I honestly don't expect it to make its way over, although I will gladly eat my words if it eventually does.
This is a trend that has gone on for the last year or so – Nintendo of Europe has brought over first party games that Nintendo of America has been reluctant to localize, for whatever reason. We all know the spiel behind Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower. What makes it worse is how well Xenoblade has been selling in Europe – not amazingly but certainly respectable – along with the recent rumblings that The Last Story will hit the region sometime in February.

Meanwhile, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime is promising "great" Wii titles releasing after The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. There's no doubt that the games he's referring to are Mario Party 9 and Fortune Street.
I'm not sure if Nintendo of America will ever change, but all indications point to a stern no. Maybe this is some strange karma from the 16-bit days where Europe didn't even get Chrono Trigger.
