Best of Wii 2010
Best of Wii 2010 (Article) by Zeypher
October 20th, 2009, by Zeypher (Carl B.)- iNintendo presents a look into the seemingly best Wii games 2010 has to offer. All games on this list have been confirmed for a release sometime in 2010, and are presented in the order of least anticipated to most anticipated.
15. Super Meat Boy
Team Meat's flash platformer Meat Boy is hitting the WiiWare service Q1 2010. Promising extremely difficult traditional platforming, Super Meat Boy is sure to be a must download once it hits Nintendo's digital distribution service.
14. Gladiator A.D.
High Voltage Software brings us Gladiator A.D. in Q1 2010 -- an ultra violent, bloody 3D fighter set in the Roman times. Inspired by the movie 300, players take control of several different Gladiators, each with their own backstories, as they fight to the death.
13. Lost in Shadow
Not much about Hudson's new Wii exclusive title, Lost in Shadow, is known at the moment other than a TBA 2010 release and a few general details. In Lost in Shadow (formally known as Tower of Shadow), players take control of a boy who is, well, lost in the shadows of a tower. The game is a platformer adventure where the main character traverses on the shadows of a tower as he climbs it, instead of on the tower itself.
12. Arc Rise Fantasia
Marvelous' Wii exclusive RPG promises to bring an epic role playing adventure to Nintendo's home console. Arc Rise Fantasia was previously released in Japan earlier in 2009 and was met with good reviews, and will hit NA shelves Q1 2010. Combat is turn based like traditional RPGs, but during either phase players, along with the enemies as well, can move around during the battle.
11. Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon
Namco's unique Wii RPG is set to release in the NA region on February 16th, 2010. Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon pits players in a post apocalyptic future where the world has no light and is covered in fog. Players control Seto as he explores the world with his flashlight and takes on enemies.
10. Monado: Beginning of the World
Monado: Beginning of the World was first shown off at Nintendo's 2009 E3 Conference, and is being published by them and developed by Monolith Soft. In the trailer shown, a futuristic warrior carrying a sword does battle with a giant robot and other enemies.
9. The Grinder
The Grinder is High Voltage Software's next Wii exclusive FPS, and will release Q4 2010. Inspired by B-horror movies and Valve's Left 4 Dead, The Grinder brings frantic vampire, werewolf, and other ghoul-shooting action to the Wii. Complete with co-op and competitive online modes, this will be a must have title for shooter fans on the Wii.
8. No More Heroes 2
Travis Touchdown is back in this sequel to the over-the-top "innapropriate" Wii exclusive No More Heroes. Desperate Struggle brings an even more intuitive Santa Destroy, more humor and wacky plot, all mixed together with Travis' new ability to dual weild beam katanas. It's set to hit the Wii TBA 2010.
7. Max and the Magic Marker
Releasing in TBA 2010, Max and the Magic Marker is looking to be WiiWare's next great and innovative hit. Players control a young boy, Max, as he explores the world -- platforming style. The innovative part comes from Max's marker; players can draw anything they want on the screen with IR pointing to assist them as they platform through levels.
6. Sin and Punishment 2
Treasure's Wii sequel to the N64 classic is set to hit NA shelves Q1 2010. Sin and Punishment 2 features the same face paced arcade stlye on rails shooting action of its predecessor, only now with the IR precision of the Wii Remote and double the original's length. Online leaderboards are also included to sweeten the package.
5. Red Steel 2
The original Red Steel was an FPS launch title on the Wii and met critics badly. Now, years later, the sequel is proving to be much different than the original in both the control and visual fronts. Boasting fully customizable gun controls, 1:1 MotionPlus swordplay, and very stylized visuals, Red Steel 2 will be a big release in Q1 2010.
4. Epic Mickey
Junction Point and Warren Spector's revitalization of Mickey Mouse is a Wii exclusive, and hitting shelves TBA 2010. Epic Mickey is a significantly darker Disney title, that sees Mickey Mouse trapped inside the Forgotten World -- a realm of past Disney characters, movies, and rides.
3. Monster Hunter 3
Capcom's monster-hunting action RPG comes to NA shores Q1 2010, exclusively for the Wii. Monster Hunter 3 continues the popular portable series' formula, with new mechanics that could only be done on a console as opposed to handheld: a much larger world, online co-op, and outstanding visuals.
2. Super Mario Galaxy 2
The sequel to the latest Mario epic will grace the Wii TBA 2010. Super Mario Galaxy 2 expands upon the storyline of Super Mario Galaxy, as well as the planetary and gravity gameplay, and even Yoshi makes a return in Galaxy 2. Shigeru Miyamoto stated that 90% of what we saw in its E3 2009 trailer was new content.
1. Metroid: Other M
A collaboration project between Nintendo and Team Ninja brings us the next installment in the Metroid universe and our number one most anticipated Wii game of 2010 -- Metroid: Other M. Other M is a more traditional Metroid title, different from the more recent FPA Prime series in that it is more similar to Super Metroid in gameplay: 2.5D sidescrolling exploration and backtracking. From its E3 2009 trailer, different viewpoints from Samus' visor were evident, with some first-person segments. Other M is also promising a more dark and story driven Metroid experience, and will release in TBA 2010.
