Editorial: Gritty Reboots (by Jennie B.)

Tomb Raider

December 27, 2010, by Jennie B. - Gamers have always been passionate about their favourite gaming series. Different versions of classic gaming trailers are everywhere now. Most of these reboots are ridiculous and awful, but some are brilliant. So even when game developers create an amazing game, the gamer is bound to create something cleverer to emphasize the true personality of the game.

Here are three cool reboots that didn't make you want to cry your eyes out:

Nathan Kitada and Aaron T. Umetani, founders of The Country Club on Youtube, have directed a movie trailer for the Mario Bros. series. The trailer presents a gritty reboot to the games, featuring Grand Theft Auto 4 graphics and killer automation of Ak-47's. Truly. Epic.

The trailer features betrayal, violence, and some awesome action scenes.

Years ago, IGN had presented a Legend of Zelda movie trailer on Youtube. Many fans were thrilled, but IGN had announced later that it was only an April Fool's joke. Booo! The trailer seemed quite legit though, so gamers were dumbfounded.

Even Pac-Man gets gritty reboots. A short video directed and co-directed by Stanley Wong and Tyler Russell, respectively, features a POV of the ghosts in the Pac-Man series. The makers of the video call it "the twisted tale of four ghosts trapped in a maze while being stalked by a giant yellow monster." Pretty tragic once you view it from the other side.

Do you know any cool gritty reboots?
